Abstract

1459262 Skin test cover V P PIRILA 5 March 1974 [15 March 1973] 9934/74 Headings A5B and A5R A skin test cover containing a test substance, the cover being of an inflexible and liquid and gas impermeable material and being suitable for use in epicutaneous tests, comprises a plate portion 1 and a collar portion 2 extending from the circumference of the plate portion and devoid of any flange about the collar portion. The plate portion may be planar and circular, Fig. 1 (not shown), and is may be formed integrally with the collar portion The cover may 'be made of metal, such as aluminium, or of plastics material. The collar portion may be cylindrical, Fig. 5 (not shown) or have the general shape of a truncated cone. The edge 4 of the. collar portion may be rounded, and it may be provided with a generally U-shaped groove (3), Fig. 2 (hot shown). The total diameter of the cover may be 10 mm, or other than this depending on the material, and on the required size of test area. The cover may be contained in a sterile pack. In use, the test substance 5 either incorporated in e.g. petroleum jelly or as a solution absorbed in filter paper is in contact with the skin surface 6 of a patient, the cover being fastened to the skin by tape 7.
