Abstract

1451600 Dry cleaning BROWN & GREEN Ltd 3 Oct 1973 [5 July 1972 7 Feb 1973] 31403/72 and 5915/73 Heading D1P Textile material is cleaned by subjecting it to the action of a liquid containing perchloroethylene and water, the amount of water in the liquid being from 15% to 200% based on the dry weight of the material, and the liquid being at a temperature of at least 25‹C but below its boiling point during at least part of the cleaning action. A de-watering agent may be added to the liquid after the cleaning action to assist in the separation of absorbed water from the material. The material may be given a preliminary and final rinse in substantially pure organic solvent. The process may be carried out in the drum of a dry cleaning machine, the cleaning preferably being effected at a temperature of 40 to 50‹C. Live steam may be injected into the drum prior to final drying of the textile material with heated air, to give a crease-free finish. Additives such as emulsifiers, detergents, soaps, optical brightening agents and bleaching agents may be added to the liquid. The material, which may be in the form of garments, textile piece goods or other articles such as carpets, curtains or overalls may comprise cotton, polyester or mixed cotton and polyester materials. Specification 973033 is disclaimed.
