1430086 Valves IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 April 1973 [10 April 1972] 16400/72 Heading F2V A valve for use as a domestic water tap or in a cistern, comprises a polyacetal housing 11 in which is mounted a sleeve 17 capable of a small movement in a direction parallel to an outlet orifice 13 and a polyacetal cylindrical component 16 which may be rotated within the sleeve 17. An extension 15 of this component forms the closure member and engages a nitrile rubber 0- ring 14 which surrounds the outlet 13. The valve is substantially hydrostatically balanced and a spring may be used to press the closure member on to the seat. In an alternative mebodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown) the sleeve is omitted and the cylindrical component is supported in an 0-ring set at an angle to the diametral plane so that the closure member may be fully balanced in the closed position by making the upper surface area of the cylindrical member subject to inlet pressure equal to the lower surface area less the area enclosed by the seal around the outlet orifice. The valve may be made of steel, brass, polyethylene, polypropylene, nylon, polyacetal, or polymethyl methacrylate.
