1417523 Pallets AIRFLEX CONTAINERS Ltd and C D D HICKEY 29 July 1974 [4 Oct 1973] 46444/73 Headings B8H and B8P A pallet assemblage comprises a rigid metal base plate 1 on which sockets 4 are mounted for the receipt of upstanding posts 5, on air impervious sealing tray 7 carried by the plate 1 and surrounded by a rim which is constituted by an outer 6 and inner (9) wall, Fig. 2 (not shown), and an inflatable/deflatable air impervious bag 12 which has an inflatable tube 13 extending around its open end, the bag 12 being used to cover a load resting on the tray 7 while the tube 13 forms a fluid-tight seal with the walls 6, (9) when inflated through a valve 14, as shown in Fig. 2 (not shown), after which air is withdrawn from the interior of the bag 12 through a vacuum pipe outlet 11 in the tray 7 thereby causing the bag 12 to be collapsed over the load resting on the tray 7 to provide a fluid tight seal around it. When the posts 5 are located in the sockets 4 detachable side panels 17 may be mounted thereon by the engagement of lugs 20 with holes 21 in the posts 5, and a top panel 22 may be attached to the upper ends of the panels 17. The tube 13 may be separate from the bag 12, being arranged when inflated to trap the edge of the bag 12 between itself and either of the walls 6 or (9).
