Abstract

1413126 Latex paints SCM CORP 21 Dec 1972 59287/72 Heading C3P Latex paints comprising a film forming latex polymer and a pigment dispersed in a bodied aqueous medium has a yield value of 95-550 dynes/cm.<SP>2</SP>, defined by To in the equation where X is the wet film thickness of the slumping section in cms. P is the density in g./cc. and g is the gravitational constant, and a shear stress of at least 90 dynes/cm.<SP>2</SP> at a shear rate of 0À1-0À2 reciprocal seconds and sufficiently high to support without significant sagging a vertical wet film of the composition up to 60 mils thick when deposited in successive passes of 5-15 mils thick wet films, shear stress being defined as the shear force per unit area of paint film expressed in dynes/cm.<SP>2</SP>. Examples use latices of vinyl acetate/2-ethylhexyl acrylate copolymer or styrene/2-ethylhexyl acrylate copolymer. The paints are applied by an airless spray.
