Abstract

1400509 Adjustable backrests F DRABERT 25 July 1972 [19 April 1972] 34831/72 Heading A4J In an office type chair having a backrest of adjustable inclination, the backrest is supported on a rod 1 secured within a holder 2 pivotally connected at 5 to a seat support and secured in adjusted position relative to the seat support by the engagement of a spring-biased hand release lever 9 in one of a number of notches 13 on an extension 4 of the holder. Movement of the extension 4 is limited by a pin 11 provided on the extension engaging stop members 18 at the upper and lower ends of a hood. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the notches are formed on a plate secured to the seat support and the release lever which is spring-biased into engagement with the notches is pivotally connected to the extension. In a second embodiment Fig. 6 (not shown) a spring- loaded stop lever has a pin which passes through one of a number of apertures (13a) formed along an arc on the extension.
