Abstract

1377738 Measuring force; weighing W & T AVERY Ltd 25 July 1972 [31 July 1971] 36116/71 Headings G1N and G1W An arrangement for measuring force e.g. a weight W, comprises a beam 10 clamped at one end 11 and freely supported at the other end so that when the beam is loaded at W it bends it such a way as to exhibit a point of inflection, and a pair of strain gauges are disposed one on either side of the point of inflection, preferably at equi-distances. The outputs of the strain gauges are additive, and four gauges, two above and two below the beam, may be connected in a bridge. In a detailed weighing arrangement of the Roberval type Fig. 3, the beam 15 is clamped at 16 and freely supported by a dependent member 18 A loading member 20 carrying a scale pan 24 is supported by parallel stay arms 22 pivoted on flexible members 22a. A dashpot damper 25 is provided.
