Abstract

1358904 Centrifugal separators SIEMENS AG 22 Oct 1971 [24 July 1971] 49298/71 Heading B2P A device for generating a helical flow in crude gas entering a helical flow centrifugal separator for the removal of solid or liquid impurities from the gas comprises an input tube 2, Figs. 1a and 1b, defining a zone closed at one end 7 and having an outlet at the opposite end, the end 7 having a form as at 12 such that in its region the zone diverges in the direcion from the end 7 to the opposite end, and one or more crude gas inlets 8, 9 opening into the region of the end 7 as such an angle that inflowing crude gas will have a helical flow imparted to it in the zone. The tube 2 is mounted in the vortex chamber 1 of the separator and is formed at its bottom with an annular conical surface 12 which merges into a central, streamlined, flow-stabilizing body 14. Auxiliary gas is supplied through a conduit 6 and a chamber 5 to infeed conduits 4 opening into the vortex chamber 1 and inclined obliquely downwardly to the chamber axis to create a potential helical flow 15 which entrains particles centrifugally hurled out of the rotary flow 13 created in the chamber 1. A portion 20 of the flow 15 discharges the particles, via an annular gap 17 constituted by the provision of a flange 16 on the tube 2, into a bin 18. Another portion of the flow 15 is split off at 19 from the portion 20 and is directed towards the vorex chamber axis above the crude gas inlet and combines with the rotary flow 13 to increase its helical motion. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the base of the tube 2 is designed as a cone and no central stabilizing body is provided. The crude gas feed conduits debouch into the tube obliquely from below and substantially parallel to the slope of the conical bottom. In a further modification, Fig. 3b, the crude gas enters the tube 2 through two parallel feed conduits 22, 23 opening into the tube at locations 24, 25 offset through at least 90‹ from each other. In a still further modification, Fig. 4a, in order to prevent adhesive particles of impurites from adhering to the inflow tube, a supplementary gas film is formed on the inner surface of the tube by feeding supplementary gas from an annular chamber 28 through nozzles 26, 27 inclined obliquely upwardly in the direction of the crude gas flow 13 to form a helical gas flow 29 which envelopes the inner crude gas flow.
