1344511 Stackable and nestable trays; package OWENS-ILLINOIS Inc 7 April 1971 8962/71 Headings B8P and B8C The bottom wall of a stackable and nestable tray 12 for elongated objects 15 has a plurality of channels 52 separated by ridges 55 and contoured to the shape of the objects and a plurality of hollow legs 60 extending downwardly in alignment with the ridges and also contoured to the shape of the objects so that an object in a lower tray is held firmly in place by an upper stacked tray. The trays may be nested when empty, the legs of an upper tray fitting into the the hollow legs of a lower tray. Channels 58 for the enlarged heads 30 of the objects 15 are provided adjacent side walls 36 of the tray. A recess 75 in at least one end wall 38 and a groove 78 in the bottom wall are provided to facilitate removal of the objects. Indentations 70 are provided in a rim 40 surrounding the top of the tray to facilitate removal of a tray from a stack. The rim 40 may be strengthened by a rib 48. A cover tray (16), which may be of similar construction to the bottom wall of the tray 12, may be placed on top of a stack of trays 12 and the stack placed in an outer container (10) for shipment. The tray may be formed of foamed plastics material, other plastics materials, paper, or moulded pulp.
