1311073 Feeding sheets MILLER PRINTING MACHINERY CO 27 July 1971 [30 July 1970] 35216/71 Heading B8R Sheets are fed from a pile 10, Fig. 1, and over an inclined feed table 12, Figs. 1 and 2, to abut against front stops 14, Fig. 1, 2 and 4, on a shaft 28 which also carries feed rollers 18 projecting through slots in the table to engage upper rollers 16. As an impression or other cylinder 20 of a printing-machine rotates, a cam 72 alternately moves a lever 74 clockwise about an eccentric bushing 76 so as to rotate the shaft 28 counterclockwise by means of a flexible band 88 and allows the lever to move counterclockwise so that a spring 100 rotates the shaft 28 clockwise by means of a flexible band 94. The rollers 16 are pivoted on a shaft 146 for movement towards and away from the rollers 18. Counterclockwise rotation of the shaft 28 moves the stops 14 out of the sheet path and advances a sheet at a speed greater than that of the cylinder 20 so as to buckle it against a register bar on the cylinder, grippers 22 on which then close to grip the sheet and carry it into the machine. Clockwise rotation of the shaft 28 brings the stops into position to register the next sheet, which is also registered sideways before feeding to the grippers. The stops are adjustable angularly by adjusting the shaft 28 with respect to a member 40 securing the bands. The tension of the spring 100 is adjustable by nuts 108, 110. A hand wheel 118 is rotated to adjust the position of the bush 76 and thus the pivotal axis of the lever 74 and its degree of movement by the cam, so as to adjust the degree of buckling according to sheet thickness. Bolts 136 adjust the stops individually to conform to straight or curved front edges of the sheets, or to move some out of operative position.
