1307441 Diapers PROCTOR & GAMBLE CO 4 March 1970 [5 March 1969] 10467/70 Heading A3V A diaper 19 comprises an absorbent body 20 having a central section 23 which extends for at least 70% of the width of the body 20 and which is compressed relative to the outer sections so as to have a smaller absorptive capacity than the outer sections. Any fluid entering the central section 23 is thus drawn to the outer sections. A hydrophobic top sheet 21 is attached to one major surface of the body 20 and, in use, lies against an infant's skin. An impermeable back sheet 22 may be provided. The desired distribution of waste fluids can be achieved by an absorbent body having a central section 43, Fig. 7, comprising one layer of material e.g. creped cellulose wadding, the outer sections having further layers 32. Alternatively, Fig. 8, an absorbent body 33 of uniform thickness with a waterimpervious insert 35 in its central section, produces the same effect.
