1304682 Aerosol deodorants MEDILINE AG 2 Feb 1970 [3 Feb 1969] 5739/69 Heading C4X [Also in Division A5] Aerosol foam compositions especially for use in feminine hygiene comprise water, a synthetic oil or fat or a natural oil or fat of animal or vegetable origin, a surface active material, an aerosol propellant, a bactericide acceptable in toiletry preparations and an aliphatic acid having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, the compositions being non-irritant to the human skin and mucous membrane and having an acid pH such as pH 3À5 to 6À5 and the surface active material being stable at the acid pH of the composition. The aerosol propellant may be a fluoroaliphatic hydrocarbon, a paraffin such as propane or butane; or carbon dioxide. The aliphatic acid may be unsubstituted, e.g. acetic or propionic acid, or may carry hydroxy groups or further carboxy groups such as oxalic, succinic, sorbic, gluconic, glucuronic, citric, tartaric or lactic acid. The surface active material may be an anionic surfactant such as a salt of a fatty acid sarcoside, of a fatty acid protein condensate or of a fatty acid-ethylene oxide condensate of sulphosalicylic acid or an amphoteric surfactant such as 1 - hydroxyethyl - 1 - carboxymethyl- 2-C 6-24 aliphatic imidazolinium salts with alkali metal or nitrogen bases of an N-C 6-24 alkylamino fatty acid. The amphoteric surfactant may be in admixture with an ionic surfactant and/or a foam stabilizer, e.g. polyvinylpyrroli. done or a water-soluble magnesium salt. The oil or fat may be purceline oil, sesame oil, almond oil, lanolin or hydrogenated hide fat; an ester, e.g. an ethyl, glyceryl or isopropyl ester of adipic, stearic, myristic, palmitic, linoleic or linolenic acid; and/or a silicone oil such as dimethylpolysiloxane or an ester thereof, methylphenylpolysiloxane or a silicone glycol copolymer; and the bactericides may be a halogenophenyl compound; a long chain quaternary ammonium compound; a nitrofuran derivative; a urea-formaldehyde condensation product; or a hydroxymethylene derivative of thiourea.
