1297493 Apparatus for coffee brewing BUNN-O-MATIC CORP 18 Aug 1971 38684/71 Heading A4D An apparatus for supplying a quantity of hot water for brewing coffee comprises a tank 11, a horizontal electric heating element 30, a hot water discharge pipe 12 extending through the bottom of the tank and having a head 14, a basin 24 across the upper end of the tank into which a quantity of cold water may be poured, a cold water discharge pipe 27 depending from the basin and a siphon chamber 22 surrounding the upper end of the pipe 12. A thermostat 29 is located at the bottom of the tank at the outlet of the pipe 27. A copper baffle 31 is attached to the lower end of the pipe 27 to retard mixing of the cold and hot water in the tank 11. The basin has a hole 39 in a flange 25 to vent the space between the basin 24 and the tank 11 to atmosphere. Addition of cold water 34 causes the hot water in the tank to rise from a first level 36 to a second level 38 causing hot water to be siphoned into the pipe 12 and on to coffee grounds 15 in a funnel 17 until the level of water falls to the first level 36.
