1283453 Catheters ASTRA-MEDITEC AB 28 Aug 1970 [28 Oct 1969] 41532/70 Heading A5R [Also in Division HI] A catheter adapted to be guided within the body by means of a magnet applied outside the body comprises a tube 2, preferably of a thermoplastics material and a tip 3 comprising a plurality of members 4, of a permanent magnetic material, and a plurality of connecting links 5 of a non-magnetic material. Each member 4 has an internal bore 6 cooperating with an internal bore of the tube 2 and each end portion of each member 4 is formed with a constriction 8 and a portion 7 having a bevelled outer face, as shown, the members being movably connected by the generally cylindrical links 5, the ends of the links being formed as inwardly directed flanges 11 which may be passed around the bevelled face. A member 4a adapted to form the end most portion of the tip 3, has a generally frusto-conical external configuration, and a member 4b adapted to engage the tube 2, has an internal screw thread 10 adapted to form and cooperate with a thread on the end portion of the tube 2. The members 4 are arranged with opposite poles adjacent and are preferably of an alloy of cobalt and platinum, the links 5 being of non-magnetic stainless steel. The lengths of successive members 4 decrease towards the portion 4a.
