Abstract

1,260,108. Hypodermic syringe. AMERICAN HOSPITAL SUPPLY CORP. 30 June, 1970, No. 31565/70. Heading A5R. A hypodermic syringe has a disposable needle-bladder assembly, comprising a hub 26 attached to the neck of the barrel of the syringe an elastic membrane bladder 11 being securely held between the hub and an annular retaining ring 31 (locked into the hub by flanges 29,) to define a chamber between the membrane and needle. The chamber may be enlarged by retraction of the plunger head 22 having sealing rings 23 and 24 and thus charged with fluid. On urging the plunger towards the hub to discharge the fluid, the high elasticity of the bladder membrane ensures that the bladder retracts inwardly away from the side walls of the barrel and thus does not prevent subsequent strikes of the plunger. The head of the plunger is tapered to fit the neck of the barrel so that substantially all the fluid in the chamber may be discharged.
