Abstract

1,256,523. Blood sampling apparatus. IMS Ltd. 5 Dec., 1968 [5 Dec., 1967], No. 39059/71. Divided out of 1,256,521. Heading A5R. [Also in Division B8] Blood sampling apparatus comprises an evacuated tube 30 having an inwardly projecting shoulder 32 against which an imperforate resilient stopper 34 seals, and a tube holder 36 having a double ended needle 38, an inner end of which can be made to puncture the stopper. The stopper may be provided with a central thin diaphragm 40 and a peripheral shoulder 52 which may be spaced from or seal against the end of tube 30. The stopper may be provided with a threaded portion (44), Figs. 3, 4 (not shown) which mates with a threaded portion adjacent the open end of the holder. The shoulder 32 may be produced by tooling hot glass or during moulding of the tube 30 from plastics material, and may be of the shape illustrated or formed as a ledge projecting at right angles to the inner wall of the tube.
