Hydraulic fluids comprise a mixture of (A) where R 3 is C 2 -C 4 alkylene, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>7</SP> and R<SP>8</SP> are each ethylene or propylene, R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>9</SP> are each methyl or ethyl and p, q, r and s are integers such that the sum of the carbon atoms in all the groups R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>7</SP> and R<SP>8</SP> is 6-10 and such that if either s or t is zero the other is at least one and if either p or q is zero the other is at least one and (B) C 2 H 5 COO (R<SP>10</SP>O) l (R<SP>11</SP>O) m OCC 2 H 5 where R<SP>10</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are each ethylene or propylene and I and m are integers such that the sum of the carbon atoms of all the groups R<SP>10</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> is 5-9. Specified compositions include a mixture of triethylene glycol diproprionate and esters of diethylene glycol monomethyl ether and a mixture of adipic, glutaric and succinic acids. The fluid may also contain polyglycols or ethers thereof, the reaction product of ammonia or an amine with an alkylene oxide, glycol/dibasic acid polyesters (examples given), complex esters, bis(3,4-epoxy-6-methyl-cyclohexylmethyl)- adipate, dibutylamine, benzotriazole, triphenyl phosphite.
