[Also in Divisions G5 and H4] A display device comprises an array of light emitting diodes 2 arranged in at least one straight line, means for rotating the array about an axis normal to the line and means for causing selective controlled light emission from any desired combination of diodes during rotation. A row of GaAsP diodes 2 and interconnected components or circuits 3 are mounted on an insulating disc 1 on a shaft 5 adjacent a stator 8. Modulated D.C. power is transmitted from leads 10 to contacts 9 on the stator which contact concentric conducting tracks 6 on the disc connected to the diodes 2, modulating signals may be applied to amplifiers 3 to reduce current. The tracks may be on the stator and the contacts on the rotor. Alternatively spaced apart tracks may be on both the stator and rotor and amplitude modulated H.F. signals passed via the gap, with or without D.C. supply fed across contacts. In another embodiment the disc has pairs of tracks for each diode, each track being overlaid with-photo-conductive material to form a switch operated by lamps on the stator to supply current to the diodes. The diodes may be mounted on the end face of a cylinder arranged inside or outside a hollow stator cylinder. To obtain equal brightness, the diode area or number of diodes may increase with distance from the centre. The diodes may be arranged on a diameter or on four radii at right angles. Radar, alpha-numeric and TV-type displays may be produced. The device may form part of an image converter in which an array of infra-red detectors rotate with the disc.
