Abstract

1,240,067. Storage structure in container Ships. MATSON NAVIGATION CO. 17 Sept., 1969 [14 Oct., 1968], No. 45913/69. Heading B7A. Cell structure for positioning rectangular containers 4 vertically in a hold of a ship comprises a plurality of adjacent pairs of spaced opposed cell frames 6 each having longitudinally aligned vertical cell guides 27 disposed in opposed pairs on each of the fore and aft sides of the frame. The cell frames have side 7, lower 13 and upper 12 portions respectively adjacent longitudinal bulkheads 2, inner bottom 3 and the level of the open upper side of the hold, with the frames 6 in vertical planes normal to the longitudinal axis of the ship. The stacks of containers 4 are supported by the frames against athwartship and fore and aft movement. Each of the frames 6 includes frame holding plates 35, 42 adjacent its lower edge by which it is releasably secured within the hold.
