Abstract

1,233,936. Laminated packaging film. OSCAR MAYER & CO. Inc. 23 July, 1968 [14 Aug., 1967], No. 35105/68. Heading B5N. [Also in Division B8] A laminated packaging film comprises an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer film containing 30-40 wt. per cent vinyl acetate adhered at one face at least to an oxygen-impermeable film of polyvinylidene chloride, e.g. an 85 wt. per cent vinylidene chloride-15 wt. per cent vinyl chloride copolymer. The other face may be bonded to a film of polyvinylidene chloride, polyethylene, chlorinated polyethylene, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer or polyvinyl chloride. The laminate may be made by extruding ethylene-vinyl acetate and polyvinylidene chloride films into a water bath at 35- 100‹ F., whereby the polyvinylidene chloride film is rendered amorphous to assist the adhesion of the films between pressure rollers. The laminate may be heated to 150‹ F. or stored at ambient temperature to crystallize the polyvinylidene chloride film, either before or after its formation into a package.
