Identification bands for mothers and their babies are formed from a web consisting of a number of plies of plastics material, with large and small bands 50, 52 extending transversely of the web and the large bands 50 alternating with small bands 52 longitudinally of the web. Each band is formed by sealing the plies together along the sides of the web and along lines 62 which are weakened to enable the individual bands to be torn off. Each band has a pocket portion and a strap portion, plies at each side of the web which extend part-way across the web forming pockets 54, 58 for the bands 50, 52 and straps 56, 60 being formed intermediate the bands. The pocket forming dies are not sealed to the other plies adjacent the straps so as to provide slots for inserting identification material in the pockets. Associated bands 50, 52 are printed with the same number at 68, 70 to establish the relationship between mother and baby in the absence of any other identification material. A snapfastener 66 engages fastening- holes in the strap. The plies are of plastics, heatsealable material, and may be relatively difficult to stretch. Alternatively, the plies may be soft, easily stretchable material with an additional ply of relatively non-stretchable material.
