Abstract

1,206,163. Packaging machines. ASPRO-NICHOLAS Ltd. 5 Feb., 1968 [21 Feb., 1967], No. 8250/67. Heading B8C. In a machine for packaging tablets &c., a thermoplastic web 1 is heated by a roller 3 and is drawn by suction into cavities 10 in a rotating roll 4, heated to a lower temperature than the roller 3. The tablets are fed into the depressions so formed and a cover sheet 2 is applied. Suction is supplied by a manifold (9), Fig. 2 (not shown) via axial ducts 11, and when the vacuum is released the recess material shrinks on to the cavity. The cover sheet 2 may be aluminium in which case the pressure of a sealing roller 5 will cause a line of weakness in the web around each depression, facilitating package opening by pressing out the contents. Rollers 7 maintain tension in the package strip and a guillotine 8 severs the packs from one another.
