[Also in Divisions A3 and A5] An incontinence pad comprises two or more layers of liquid absorbent material, e.g. consisting of cotton wool and gauze, having a layer of powdered cellulose derivative capable of absorbing liquid to form a gel between one or each pair of adjacent layers. The cellulose derivative may be a cellulose ether or ester. The pad may be provided with an outer layer of reticulated pervious gauze-like sheeting.
