A device for conveying liquid samples comprises a ring table 2 adapted to hold a plurality of sample tubes 1 which can be moved, in turn, opposite an automatic pipette 8 arranged to dip into each tube under the action of cam means. The pipette 8 is secured to an arm 6 and is raised and lowered and moved from a tube 1 to a receptacle 12 by the cam means; the receptacles 12 are mounted in a ring 13, both rings 2 and 13 being carried by a table 3 which is indexed around intermittently by a motor via a pin-and-slot device. The end of the pipette is arranged to wipe over the edge of edges of the tubes and receptacles in order to remove any droplets on the pipette. In a modification the sample may be placed in a trough (41, Fig. 3) formed in a straight table (27) moved longitudinally, and transferred by three different pipettes (23); alternatively the trough may be replaced by three separate receptacles. In other modifications, the latter arrangement of tubes and receptacles may be mounted on a rotary table or on an endless belt.
