Thermoplastic hydrocarbon polymers are filled with 10 to 50 weight per cent of the resulting composition of at least two fillers, at least one of which is fibrous and at least one of which is powdery, reinforcing and inorganic. The polymer may be a homopolymer, copolymer or block copolymer of ethylene, propylene, butylene, isobutylene, pentene, isopentene, hexene, 4-methylpentene-1 or styrene. The fibrous filler may be rock wool, or glass, quartz, ceramic asbestos, polyester, polypropylene or rayon fibres. The powdery filler may be calcium or barium sulphate, magnesium carbonate, silica, magnesium or aluminium silicate, fly ash, ground granite, powdered slate, calcium carbonate or talc. The compositions may also contain pigments, matting agents, lubricants, antistatic agents, stabilizers and blowing agents, and may be moulded to form doors, floor and wall coverings, switches, gears, instrument panels and pump casings. Examples describe compositions comprising asbestos and (1-4) polyethylene and talc, (5) polyethylene and calcium carbonate and (6) isotactic polypropylene and calcium carbonate.
