Abstract

1,070,692. Anchor-bolts. PHILLIPS DRILL CO. May 13, 1964 [Oct. 14, 1963; Jan. 28, 1964], No. 19979/64. Heading F2H. An anchor bolt comprises an elongated steel member (60) having a cylindrical shank (62), a threaded stud (66) at one end and an axially slotted and bored expansion section (64) at the other end, the expansion section (64) having broaching rings (78) and an end undercutting ring (80), there being provided a tapered steel expansion plug (84) having a reduced entrant end which is driven into the axial bore (72) in the member (60) and a shouldered flange (92) at the second end of the plug. The plug when forced into the expansion section (64) does not fully enter the axial bore, the free end of the expansion section thus being spaced axially from the flange (92) so that an annular space is provided for accommodating cuttings resulting from the undercutting action. In a modification the hole which forms the hollow bore is drilled to a predetermined depth so that the plug bottoms in the hole when the anchor is fully set.
