Abstract

1,063,941. Treating tobacco. K. KÍRBER. Sept. 24, 1964 [Nov. 18, 1963], No. 45434/63. Heading A2C. [Also in Division F4] In apparatus for drying tobacco, the tobacco is both weighed and its moisture content measured by a belt weigher 54 and capacitator plates in a duct 16 respectively, prior to a first drying action in a rotary drum 1 by a co-curent flow of hot air from a duct 29, which measurements are used to control the flow of heated air to the drum, and then the tobacco is further dried in the drum by a steam-heated coil 10. The temperature of the coil 10 is controlled in stepwise fashion by a valve in the steam inlet in consequence upon a moisture sensing means 42 in a duct 41 connected to a discharge conveyer 40.
