A surgical dressing comprises a perforated plastic film 10 for contacting the skin in use, lightly adhered or bonded in lines or dots to an absorbent pad 9, so that in the event of the facing sticking to a wound, the pad may be separated from it. An absorbent pad 9 made of cotton and acrylic fibres is covered on one side with an open gauze 8 and on the other side with a smooth perforated flexible plastic film 10 which may be made of polyester. The film is bonded to the pad along lines or stripes 11 (Fig. 2 not shown) or intersecting parallel lines or dots (not shown) by heating or adhesive. A pad 18 (Fig. to 7 not shown) covered on one side with the perforated film 19 may be adhered to a microporous plastic film backing 15, which may be polyvinyl chloride the film having adhesive in a pattern on the side carrying the pad. Removable facing strips cover the pad and the adhesive-coated exposed ends of the backing.
