A pneumatic tyre comprises a carcass having spaced beads 13 and a plurality of parallel cord plies 12 extending from bead to bead, the ratio of sectional radial height to sectional axial width of said carcass when inflated being between 0À7 and 0À8, the cord angle of said plies being 32 to 36 degrees at the mid-circumferential line of the tyre, the tyre being characterized in that upon inflation the sectional radial height increases while the sectional axial width decreases. The cross-sectional profile of the inflated carcass from the point 21 of maximum sectional axial width in one side wall to the mid-circumference in the crown may be defined by the equation where A is the distance from the radial axis Y-Y to the point 21, B is the distance from the horizontal axis X-X to the mid-circumference in the tyre crown, and n is an exponent greater than 2 and less than 3. When the tyre is inflated the distance h from the bead to the point 21 is between 0À5 and 0À6 of the sectional radial height.
