Abstract

1,035,361. Winding yarns. W. REINERS. Jan.10, 1963 [Jan. 13, 1962], No. 1186/63. Addition to 949,499. Heading D1J. In a thread winding machine in which thread from a supply package 12 is wound on to a take-up spool 3 and in which in the event of breakage of the thread the broken ends are tied, means are provided whereby the tying of doubled threads is prevented. The normal path F of the thread includes a guide member 13, a tensioning device 14, a cleaner 15 and a thread guide drum 2. In the event of thread breakage pivotally mounted suction pipers 5, 6 move to the positions shown dotted to grip and transfer the broken ends to a tying device 7. A thread severing device in the form of shears 20, 22 is mounted downstream of the position 6<SP>1</SP> in which the broken end of the supply package is gripped and a stationary suction nozzle 10 is situated downstream of the shears 20, 22. Pivotal movement of the gripper 6 operates the shears by the action of a projecting pin 16 on a double lever 17, 18 so that the trailing end F<SP>1</SP> of the supply thread is severed at the shears and sucked into the nozzle 10. Removal of this trailing end F<SP>1</SP> removes the danger of transferring a doubled thread to the tying device 7. Operation of the shears may be made dependent on interruption of the winding operation.
