Abstract

The invention concerns a system for monitoring a motor vehicle driver's eyes to detect and prevent impaired alertness of, by sensing the movements of the eyelids. The system is characterised in that it consists in evaluating the start and end of blinking without attempting to localise the eyes statically. Statistical calculations on series of blinks constant in number obtained during a specific time interval enable to detect the groups of long-lasting blinks and assess the level of alertness. Preventing measures are implemented as required.
