Abstract

The invention relates to a method and equipment for checking the identity of a person. The equipment is characterised in that it comprises a first reader 1 for reading the information relating to the identity of the persons to be identified on their identification cards 2, the information being recorded thereon in a way which is inaccessible to the said person, especially in digital form, a terminal 5 equipped with means 8 for decoding and converting the data originating from the reader 1 and means 10 for visually displaying the information thus processed. The invention is usable in the field, for example, of banks.
