Abstract

The vol. of gas in a liquid flowing through a pipe is deduced by ultrasonic interrogation. An ultrasonic transporter is mounted on the interior wall of the pipe. Ultrasonic waves are transmitted through the fluid in pulsed bursts. Between consecutive bursts of ultrasonic transmission the transporter detects back scattered waves from bubbles in the liq. The detected signals are transmitted over a line to the pipe exterior for subsequent analysis where the signal parameters are converted into a quantitative assessment of the gas vol. carried by the liq.
