Abstract

The miles per gallon meter comprises an element sensitive to the instantaneous value of petrol flow rate, a system for producing the quotional of the flow rate divided by the speed, and a system (1) for displaying this quotient. The flow rate sensor is a membrane (13) subjected to the pressure reduction in the suction jet (6) of the carburrator. The speed sensor is as used in conventional cars. A speed is shown by a moving pointer (3) over a graduated scale (2); flow rate is shown by a second moving graduated scale (5) but in the inverse direction. Thus, consumption may be read directly from this second scale.
