Abstract

The apparatus comprises a plate or splint (9) and a dynamometer-type unit compressing the broken bone ends together. This unit has two pivoting arms (2, 3), and in the form of a pair of compasses. One arm engages in a notch (10) in the end of the splint, and the other fits under the head of a screw (15) engaging with the portion of bone (12) to be pressed against the other bone portion (13), and passing through an elongated hole formed in the splint, which is fixed to the other portion (13). The two arms are forced apart by a wedge (4) applied to them with a limited amount of force.
