Abstract

The joint comprises a femoral assembly for sealing to the base of the femur so as to act as as external and internal condyles and two tibial components for sealing into the glenoidal cavities of the tibia, supporting the femoral assembly and allowing it to pivot. Each tibial component (21, 22) incorporates a removable plate with a supporting surface for the femoral assembly, and a sealing portion with a base for securing permanently in position. Means for detachable mounting of plate on sealing portion are included. The plates can be made in sets of different thicknesses within a set range. There can be lateral flanges secured to the plates and inclined inwards, bearing against mating faces on the sides of the sealing portions.
