Abstract

Enteric coating process for coloured, hard gelatin capsules comprises sealing the capsules with a soln contg 80-75% v/v of a volatile solvent and 20-25% of water, the transparent enteric coating soln. then being applied by spraying on to the sealed capsules which are dried at 10-50 degrees C. The coating adheres strongly to the sealed capsules and does not flake off. No re-colouring of the dried capsules is required. Prefd. coating solns. contain cellulose acetate phthalate as the main coating component together with diethyl phthalate, acetone or methanol.
