Abstract

A microsurgical instrument for performing selective trabeculectomy in the surgical treatment of glaucoma includes flexible probe media A and a cutting member C attached thereto. The cutting member comprises two scalpel blades C1, C2 protruding in different directions from the probe media and each providing a sharp edge E1, E2 turned towards one free end of the probe media. The instrument is intended to be pulled, between two incisions in the wall of the eye, with the probe media in front, through Schlemm's canal in the junction between the cornea and sclera, thus cutting the internal wall of the canal and the corresponding part of the trabecular meshwork in the canal. The aqueous humour of the eye then gains access to the external wall of Schlemm's canal with its drainage exits which lead out of the eye.
