Abstract

Method of preparing an alkaline alloy fiber comprising a matrix of regenerated cellulose and, dispersed therein, from about 5% to about 30%, based on the weight of the cellulose, of an additive capable of increasing the holding capacity of fiber fluid, the ratio of additive being such that the fluid retention capacity of the fiber is at least 4.79 cc/g, the fiber preferably having a lubricating finish for cellulose on itself, and in which the only additive is a salt of alginic acid of an alkali metal, characterized by mixing a predominant amount of a viscose that forms filaments with the salt of alginic acid of an alkali metal, shaping the mixture into fibers, coagulating and regenerating the fibers, applying the finish lubricating the fibers, if desired, and drying the fibers in an alkaline state, reducing the fiber bundle to the cut shape, if desired, before drying.
