Abstract

Translated fromSpanish

Protecting a crime scene is essential to ensure it remains exactly as the criminal left it, keeping all evidence unaltered in its original position, location, and state. Drones allow us to accurately locate each piece of evidence and prevent its contamination, deterioration, or destruction, as these items are sometimes imperceptible to the naked eye. Working with a drone saves us from having to enter the scene, providing us with all the data thanks to the cameras and the ability to access areas that sometimes even a camera cannot reach. As Locard said, "Time that passes is the truth that flees," making it essential to be able to carry out the on-site inspection with full guarantees and in a timely manner so that the remains and biological evidence are preserved as best as possible. The advantage of this technological tool is that it can perform, in a single pass, the work of two people who would otherwise be on the scene with cameras and laser scanners. In addition, it offers photogrammetry, identification using various forensic lights, planimetry, and images of impressive quality. Drones are already being used in industry, rescue, emergencies, and public safety by State Law Enforcement Agencies. Adapting a drone to meet the requirements of inspecting a crime scene or location is a masterful advance. The drone performs general reconnaissance of the site, but it will also provide us with detailed images of hard-to-reach areas, showing us and allowing us to perform highly accurate planimetry. When it comes time to present the report to the court, we will have highly accurate material, allowing a rapid understanding of what happened. A drone designed with all the technology combined in a single device and with the ability, WITHOUT LIFTING THE WIND, to perform the entire technical inspection in a single session and without human intervention, allowing all clues, traces, and evidence to be recorded without contamination or transfer.
