Die Erfindung bezieht sich u. a. auf eine Vorrichtung (10) zum Sortieren von Gegenständen (20) mit einer Puffereinrichtung (30) mit einer Vielzahl an Pufferspeicherstellen (40), die von einer Beladungseinrichtung (50) befüllbar sind, und einem Zwischenspeicher (60) mit einer Vielzahl an Zwischenspeicherstellen (70), wobei der Zwischenspeicher und die Puffereinrichtung derart angeordnet sind, dass Gegenstände, die an einer Pufferspeicherstelle der Puffereinrichtung gespeichert sind, in eine Zwischenspeicherstelle des Zwischenspeichers überführt werden können, wobei die Zwischenspeicherstellen (70, 70a, 70b) des Zwischenspeichers (60) mit einer Relativgeschwindigkeit gegenüber den Pufferspeicherstellen (40, 40a) der Puffereinrichtung (30) bewegbar sowie geeignet sind, zum Zwecke einer Vorsortierung jeweils mehr als einen Gegenstand (20, 20a, 20b) aufzunehmen.Erfindungsgemäß ist vorgesehen, dass die Puffereinrichtung (30) derart über dem Zwischenspeicher (60) angeordnet ist, dass ein in einer Pufferspeicherstelle befindlicher Gegenstand (20a) in eine Zwischenspeicherstelle (70a) fallen kann, und die Vorrichtung (10) eine Vielzahl an unter dem Zwischenspeicher (60) angeordneten und während des Sortierbetriebs ruhenden Auffangbehältern (80, 80b) aufweist, die während des Sortierbetriebs mit in den Zwischenspeicherstellen (70, 70a, 70b) des Zwischenspeichers (60) enthaltenen Gegenständen (20, 20a, 20b) befüllbar sind, wobei die ruhenden Auffangbehältern derart unter dem Zwischenspeicher (60) angeordnet sind, dass ein Zuordnen der Gegenstände (20) zu den einzelnen ruhenden Auffangbehältern (80) durch die Bewegung der Zwischenspeicherstellen erfolgt und der oder die in einer Zwischenspeicherstelle befindlichen Gegenstände in einen der ruhenden Auffangbehälter fallengelassen werden können, sobald die jeweilige Zwischenspeicherstelle geeignet positioniert ist.
