Description

Double-Sided Data Termination Block
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a double-sided termination block that provides data termination, DSL and similar connections on present distribution frames used in telecommunication networks.
Known termination blocks having termination strips, so called modules, comprising data and in particular DSL connections can be installed on the distribution frames in the vertical position and in vertical form in a single direction and no other connection can be installed on the strip where this connection has been placed, which causes scarcity in space on the distribution frames and limits construction of required facilities for additional subscriber's connections.
In the present arrangements, when DSL connection is intended, usually 48 subscriber connections can be made by using 10 modules of 5 units, and connection is effected by installing DSL splitter only to the front sides of some of those termination strips used in all telecommunication networks and only to the back sides of some others.
Summary of the Invention
The invention seeks to provide a solution for allocating a dedicated block for data and DSL modules (termination strips) on the distribution frames. The data termination block according to the invention can be mounted onto every gap in vertical or horizontal positions that fits to the size of an apparatus, having a certain size, on the distribution frames. Therefore, the data termination block will enable using all of the spaces in the distribution frames. The equipment according to the invention will provide operation facility, by means of its ability to incline to both sides on a pivot axis during its installation and when making subscribers' connections.
While 48 subscribers can be connected in the current systems, communication of 100 subscribers can be effected by the subject invention through the block by using 10 pieces of double sided termination strips of 10 units where 10 pieces of narrow type DSL Splitter can be fixed in case of DSL connections. Capacity of distribution frames will be increased more than double through the termination block subject invention, by effecting 100 subscribers' connection instead of 40 connections on the on the area of distribution frames.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, as both sides of 10 pieces of double sided termination strips of 10 units that is installed on the data termination block are identically designed, any side can be selected as subscriber side or as splitter side according to entry direction of wires. In other words, both sides can be provided with the splitters and the cables.
Figure 1 illustrates the data termination block, according to the invention, in perspective view.
Figure 2 illustrates the double-sided termination strip in perspective view.

Description of the Invention
A frame connecting apparatus (1) connected to a termination block (2) comprises a frame connection wall (12) which is fixed to a distribution frame (not shown) and two side block holders (13) perpendicularly extending at both ends of the frame connection wall (12). The frame connecting apparatus (1) is so dimensioned to facilitate the connection of the double-sided data termination block on the currently- used distribution frames. The frame connecting apparatus (1) can be installed either in horizontal position or in vertical position with respect to the distribution frames. The termination block (2), having termination strips (4) comprising cable connection points (14) and slots (9) for cable or DSL splitter connection, is connected to the frame connection apparatus (1).
At both ends of the frame connection apparatus (1) and on the side block holders (13), there are provided circular channels (3) providing inclination of the termination block (2) with respect to the frame connection apparatus (1). Fixing elements (10) perpendicularly extending from the vertical ends of the termination block (2) are provided, and these fixing elements (10) are engaged to the fixing housings (11) formed on the side block holders (13) of the apparatus (1). As seen in figure 1 , side block holders (13) are provided with the fixing housings (11) in which the fixing elements (10) can be seated or engaged, which provides the inclination and holding of the termination block (2) in a certain position with respect to the distribution frame so to the frame connection wall (12) which is fixed thereto. By doing so, an operator can readily install the terminator block to the distribution frame or connect the subscriber's cables to the location cables. In other words, double-sided termination strips (4) are positioned vertically, but not parallel, to the distribution frames, which provides utilizing both sides of the termination strips (4). (i.e. A and B sides are vertical and C side is parallel to the distribution frame).
An alternative arrangement for inclining the termination block is shown in Figure 6. In this alternative embodiment, three fixing housings (11) are formed on the circular periphery of the side block holders (13). The fixing elements (10), in this embodiment, are disposed at the outer edges of the termination block (2) in vertical direction and the fixing elements (10) being extending parallel to the vertical ends of the termination block (2). When the termination block (2) is intended to be positioned at one of the three positions, the fixing elements (10) at both sides of the termination block (2) are moved upwards and then the block (2) is inclined, and once the termination block (2) is taken to the position intended the fixing elements (10) are moved downwards to engage thereof to the respective fixing housing (11).
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a capacity for 100 subscribers is thus provided through installation 10 pieces of double-sided termination strip (4) of 10 units on the termination block (2). In case a DSL connection, preferred embodiment comprises 10 pieces of DSL splitter slots (9) and cable connection points (14) on each side (A and B) of the double-sided termination strips (4). DSL splitters (5) can be connected to and cable connections can be made on any side (A and B) of the termination strips (4). Usage of any side of double-sided termination strip (4) is provided by connecting DSL cable (6) to the side where DSL splitter (5) is fitted and by connecting the subscriber cable (7) and the location cable (8) to the other side.
In some DSL-included systems, location block, DSL block and subscriber's block are connected with each other by jumper cables. In case the double-sided termination block is replaced with the location block in the distribution frames, the DSL block will no longer be necessary, so space is recovered at the distribution frame and less jumper cable is used.
