Zum Abgleich der Schreibdüsen eines Tintendruckkopfes (DK) wird während eines bidirektionalen Druckervorlaufs für jede Schreibdüse (D1 bis D32) ein definiertes Strich­muster (SCI) auf den Aufzeichnungsträger (P) abgedruckt und anschließend während eines Abtastdurchlaufes von einem Sensor (AB) abgetastet. Die Abtastwerte (AW), welche die "Ist"-Position der Tintentröpfchen repräsen­tieren, werden in der zentralen Steuerung (ZS) der Tinten­schreibeinrichtung mit der durch die Ansteuerimpulse im Druckspaltenraster (DSR) bestimmten "Soll"-Position ver­glichen und ein sogenannter Tröpfchenversatz (VS) ermittelt.
