Durch Wahl einer geeigneten Frequenz kann die Tiefe bestimmt werden, bis zu der hin diese Dielektrizitätseigenschaften gemessen werden sollen. Sichtbares Licht und Infrarot sind wegen der zu geringen Eindringtiefe für diese Meßaufgaben nicht geeignet. Für die Untersuchung von Organoberflächen und deren Strukturänderungen wird daher die Verwendung des Frequenzbandes von ca. 10 GigaHertz eingeführt.
