Abstract

The invention relates to a coke-quenching tower, composed of a trapping hood, arranged above the quenching car containing the incandescent coke, for the heated quenching vapours resulting from the quenching of the coke and a shaft connected to the trapping hood displaced to the side. In order to design a coke-quenching tower of the type described in Claim 1 in such a manner that a purification of the vapours is carried out as early as in the bottom region of the shaft and at the same time a uniform velocity profile of the ascending vapours is brought about and the efficiency of the treatment measures is improved at low pressure drops, it is proposed that the cover (3) of the quenching hood (1) is formed in a dome-like manner and the apex (4) of the dome is arranged off-centre to the quenching hood (1) and to the shaft (2), vertical baffles and guides (6) for the quenching vapours are arranged in the bottom region (5) of the shaft (2) and the lower edge (7) of the dome (3) at the transition to the shaft (2) lies beneath a hypothetical plane which is formed by the upper edges (6') of the baffles and guides (6). <IMAGE>
