Spondylodese-StabilisatorSpinal fusion stabilizer

The invention relates to a spinal fusion stabilizer for fixationthe relative position of two immediately adjacent vertebrae to each other.

In the previous designs of spinal fusion stabilizersa distinction must be made between two fundamentally different types. With one construction conceptso-called Harrington sticks are used; these are grooved bars, each attached to onehealthy vertebrae above and below the vertebrae to be stabilized with the helpby hooks on the vertebral arch which hangs wadin to / between vertebraedistract.

With this concept, a number of vertebrae are compressedThreaded rods used in conjunction with the hooks mentioned.

At least one of these hooks is connected to a threaded nut(Hackenbroch and Witt: Orthopädischchirurgischer Operationsatlas, Volume III, page65 and 127, Stuttgart, 1974). As well as other constructions where theIf springs acting at the height of several vertebrae are used, these rods are notpossible to fix directly adjacent vertebrae against each other. Furthermoreare made by these rods and springs, i.e. more precisely their hooks with which they are healthyVertebrae are attached, but healthy parts of the spine are still affectedrelated or must for the application of these stabilizers in the vicinity of the immobilizedVertebral joints healthy vertebrae for anchoring are present.

Furthermore, constructions are made of plates or railsknown to be attached directly to the vertebrae to be fixed, for example by screwsand / or metal pins,be consolidated (Operating Atlas, page212). Although it is possible with these plates and rails, also neighboring vertebraeto fix against each other; as well as in the case of fixation with bone chips (surgical atlas,Page 208/209) is the distance at which the two vertebrae are immobilized, howevernot adjustable with these constructions.

The object of the invention is to create a spinal fusion stabilizer, which combines the advantages of the two well-known construction principles withoutthe disadvantages described must be accepted. This task is done withthe present invention solved by each one of the vertebrae to be fixedfastening tabs that have threaded holes with opposite directions of rotation, andfurthermore by connecting bolts, which by means for engaging a toolwear separate opposing threads. The tabs bearing the threaded holes will bewith the advantage of bone screws that pass through the vertebral arch foot (pedicle)extend through to the vertebral body, attached, to compensate for uneven bonesWashers can be provided. By turning the connecting boltit is possible in a simple way, within certain limits, any desired distancebetween the two vertebrae to be fixed and furthermore in the courseto make corrections to this distance over time. Another benefit of the newConstruction consists in having mechanical fixation in close proximityof the joint surfaces to be immobilized against each other.

In the following the invention is based on an exemplary embodimentexplained in more detail.

1 shows the fixation of two vertebrae in a dorsal viewwith the help of the new stabilizers;Fig. 2 is a plan viewFig. 1 from above; 3 and 4 show one of the tabs in the same representation as a detaillike Fig. 1 and 2 again.

To fix the joints lying between two adjacent vertebrae 12 tabs 3 'or 3 "are attached to each vertebra 1 on both sides of its median plane,of which one in a manner corresponding to the representation of FIGS. 1 and 2 asDetail in Figs. 3 and 4 is shown.

The tabs 3 have on the one hand a threaded hole 5 (Fig. 3), whichfor example in Fig. 1 at the right lower and the left upper flap 3 'have a direction of rotation (right-hand thread) that corresponds to the one (left-hand thread) on the rightupper and lower left flap 3 "is opposite. Continue to ownthe tabs 3 have a bore 8 running perpendicular to the threaded bore 5.

The fastening of the tabs 3 in the vertebra is done through the holes8 through with the help of relatively long bone screws 4, which from the dorsal throughthe pedicles 6 reach deep into the vertebral bodies 7. To do theto compensate for relatively strong unevenness of the surfaces of the pedicle 6 and oneTo ensure a firm fit of the flap 3 on the vertebral bone is between the flaps3 and the pedicles 6 each have a washer 9 (FIG. 2).

Connecting bolts 10 are inserted into the threaded bores 5 of the tabs 3screwed in, the threads of the tabs in their lower or upper halves3 'or 3 "wear corresponding threads 11' and 11". In the middle are the opposing onesThread 11 'and 11' 'from one another by a center piece 12 designed as a hexagonseparated; a wrench can attack this, ifthe distance between the vertebrae 1 fixed by the connecting bolts 10 is setor should be changed.
