Abstract

The switch is used in permanent magnet excited tachogenerators attached to reversing drives. A hardened steel ring is fastened to an extension of the generator casing in a manner to permit rotational movement. The ring carries contact fingers which operate in conjunction with contact springs each contact set being insulated from its support. Stops are fastened to the frame limit the travel of the ring in either direction. Means for driving the ring between these limits are provided from the shaft, which can take the form of a permanent magnet disc fastened to the shaft and separated from the ring by an air gap. The driving principle is that of the hysteresis motor. Alternatively a mechanical drive may be employed, for example through the friction in a ball race.
