Abstract

The invention relates to a seal in order to prevent the exit or entry of liquids out of or into systems and the application thereof. According to the inventive solution, a seal should be provided which prevents liquids from exiting a system or from being able to enter such a system with a high certainty and over a long period of time. To this end, a nonbiodegradable polymer which is capable of swelling by imbibition or at least two components which reactively form such a polymer are accommodated in a space which separates both systems from one another. The invention can be favorably utilized in order to seal pipes or to seal waste disposal sites.
