Regurgitation is a common valvular disease. Regurgitation is caused by the failure of the leaflets to close completely, causing blood to flow back into the chamber where the blood is pumped, and is caused by the main reasons for regurgitation, such as annular dilation, leaflet prolapse, and obstruction of leaflet movement, and is impaired by the lesions of the valve caused by many diseases, such as rheumatic heart disease and endocarditis.
The main current methods for leaflet treatment are valve replacement techniques and valve repair techniques. Leaflet replacement techniques replace an original diseased or abnormal heart valve with a prosthetic valve. Such replacement surgery often requires an open chest procedure, which is a major trauma to the patient. The valve repair treatment is to send the clip from the apex of the heart to the damaged valve by a conveyer and clamp the front leaflet edges of the valve leaflets together by the clip.
