On June 25,Tim Renner, Berlins Secretary of State for Culture,Prof. Dr. Johannes Vogel, General Director of the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin, andDr. Paula Marie Hildebrandt artist and urbanist, discussed, how cultural institutions and cultural policy can foster broad participation in the field of open culture at the discussion panel"Das ABC des Freien Wissens".
Volunteers love GLAM institutions and back stage tours, that is known. But the fact is not easy to communicate to GLAM institutions. How do you easily call theproduct?GLAM on Tour has become quite known among the institutions as a standard event in Germany. But due to its size - normally a 3 days event with a challenging schedule - might be to big to suit everyone. Thanks toGeolina GLAM on Tour's little sister has now a name: KulTour. The word combines Kultur - German for culture - and Tour. And thefirst KulTour was held in June.Cromford, stands for early textile industry and is amuseum too nearDüsseldorf. Chapeau! - an exhibition on headdress. 15 Wikipedians met to shoot the hat. Beautiful images on hats from the early 19th century up to our days. The quite young German Open GLAM group got started. On June 18, a full-day workshop for cultural institutions was held at Wikimedia Germany. 20 participants from various institutions gathered and shared their worries and hopes concerning open data as a sustainable parts of the workshop. It helps us GLAM activists in better understanding the institutions. In a worldcafé the participants worked on 4 different topic such as licenses, technical aspects on metadata, arguments for open culture and thoughts on sustainability. In the end we presented the results of the workgroups.
